JD Tile recently completed a master bathroom renovation in Lancaster, PA. The scope of work involved: demo the existing shower and tub deck of the existing 4″ tile. Prep the new shower with mud walls and pan, waterproof, tile with large format tiles and a mosaic feature band. New shower includes a recessed niche placed perfectly in the space of a tile. The deck of the tub will serve as a shaving ledge as new glass will be installed and set back 5″. This feature will increase the area of the shower and avoid the need for a separate shelf. The tile bullnose pieces were used on the curb and to frame the shower and deck and deck backsplash. The floor in the bathroom was also tiled with the 12X24s. Continuity flows throughout the master bathroom, glass and color will added to the room to complete it! Plasma grout by Laticrete used along with Mapei’s Aqua Defense for waterproofing the mud walls and shower pan. Normally in this day and age cement board is used but JD Tile has trained extensively with other professionals in PA and CA to learn the art of mud work. Mud walls allow the tile mechanic the ability to take an out of square and area not plumb and make it perfect to tile onto. Mud walls is a lost art that has been around hundreds of years, but has given way to new innovations. It still remains the best possible way to prepare a shower for tile. JD Tile is always looking to learn new techniques and products in order to have a selection to choose from for the potential job.
